2023年9月29日

Prostate 癌症 is a condition often heard about, but perhaps seldom fully understood. In recognition of National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, 我们问马库斯·汤普森, FNP-C, a family nurse practitioner at Fairvue Family Wellness, to answer some of the most frequently asked questions concerning this common form of 癌症.
什么是前列腺??
The prostate is a gl和 that is only found in 男人, located just below the bladder 和 in front of the rectum. It is an important reproductive tool because it produces some of the fluid (se男人) that protects 和 nourishes sperm, 和 it surrounds the urethra – the tube that carries urine 和 se男人 out of the body. It’s about the size of a walnut but tends to increase in size as 男人 age.
什么是前列腺癌?
除了皮肤癌, prostate 癌症 is the most common type of 癌症 found in American 男人. According to the Prostate Cancer Foundation, one out of every eight 男人 in the U.S. will be diagnosed with prostate 癌症 in his lifetime. Most 男人 with the condition are 65 和 older 和 do not die from it, although it is still the second leading cause of 癌症 death among U.S. 男人. The good news is that most prostate 癌症s are highly treatable when detected early.
我有患前列腺癌的风险吗?
While any man can develop prostate 癌症, your chances increase as you grow older: 60% of cases are diagnosed in patients over age 65. 其他风险因素是遗传因素. African American 男人 和 男人 with a history of prostate 癌症 in their family are at increased risk for developing the disease.
What are the symptoms of prostate 癌症?
Symptoms can vary from person to person, 和 some 男人 with prostate 癌症 will not present with any symptoms at all. Some signs to be on the lookout for include:
- 排尿困难, including trouble starting or holding back urination, a weak or interrupted uninterrupted urine flow, 排尿时疼痛或灼烧, 膀胱排空困难, 尿频, 尤其是在晚上
- 血尿或精液中的血
- 射精疼痛
- Pain in the back, hips or pelvis that does not go away
If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, make an appoint男人t with your primary care provider to discuss them. 重要的是要注意这些
symptoms are not exclusive to prostate 癌症 和 could be caused by another condition.
“Men often put off scheduling health screenings for a variety of reasons,马库斯·汤普森说, FNP-C. “但底线是 就医, especially if you are experiencing symptoms, can be the difference in catching 癌症 when it is early 和 treatable, 或者等到太晚了.”
Should I be screened for prostate 癌症?
Before making a decision to get screened for prostate 癌症, you should discuss with your primary care provider whether it’s right for you. You 和 your doctor should take into consideration if you have a history of prostate 癌症 in your family or existing medical conditions, 和 carefully weigh the pros 和 cons of screening based on these 和 other specific risk factors.
What does a prostate screening look like?
常用两种检测方法. A Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) test measures the presence in your blood of a certain substance made by your prostate. A Digital Rectal Examination (DRE) is when your provider inserts a gloved, lubricated finger into your rectum to feel if the prostate is enlarged or irregularly shaped. In either case, abnormal exam results won’t necessarily mean you have prostate 癌症. 而不是, your doctor may request to repeat the test after an interval of time or schedule another test such as an MRI or biopsy, 以确定是否存在癌症.
我能帮助预防前列腺癌吗?
Many of the risk factors such age, family history 和 ethnicity are beyond your control. 也就是说, you can strengthen your body’s ability to fight 癌症 by improving your health 和 immune system. Most of the healthy lifestyle habits your provider recom男人ds – such as regular physical activity, 健康饮食, reducing stress 和 cutting down on drinking 和 smoking – can help reduce your 癌症 risk.
If you have any concerns regarding prostate 癌症 和 its risks, 症状和筛选, have a discussion with your primary care provider.
